"Florence found out today that she and Michael have been granted indefinite leave to remain ! She is here with us now and is a very happy woman ! Thank you to everyone for your support."
Lisa Buklovskis, Lesbian Community Project.

Florence set up her own anti-deportation campaign in December 2006, supported by the Lesbian Community Project and Women Asylum Seekers Together (WAST).  Activities included a letter-writing campaign, an on-line petition, the involvement of Florence's MP, media articles, a number of fundraising events and speaking in public with other WAST members.

"It is so gratifying to hear that yet another WAST member has got leave to remain - it brings tears of joy to my eyes to see the list of WAST women, who are now safe and who can finally get on with their lives, becoming longer by the day. These include Ziadah, Olive, Farhat, Hummiara, Farah, Nilofur ….. They are all extremely brave women who have been through so much in life and deserve some certainty and security in their lives. Who says campaigning and belief in yourself does not pay????"
Farhat Khan, Women Asylum Seekers Together (WAST)

Florence featured in last year's Observer magazine "It is as if I am dead already" 6-page article by Louise France (photo above).  The article featured a number of WAST members and was facilitated by Women For Refugee Women .
